Grant Enfinger and the Allgaier Motorsports team came to Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis with hopes of contending for a win at the .7 mile short track. While the race didn’t go as hoped the team came away with a very respectable 9th place finish, good enough to move the #36 Hoosier Tire Midwest team from 4th to 3rd place in the ARCA Series presented by Menards point standings.
Enfinger and the usual cast of talented ARCA drivers, along with NASCAR Truck Series regulars James Buescher and Matt Crafton, took the green flag with Enfinger starting in the 8th spot. Enfinger would fall to the 12th spot by lap 22 and when a lap 37 caution flag flew, crewchief Kelli Kovski would call the #36 Dodge to pitroad for tires fuel and adjustments. This would lead to Enfinger restarting in the 17th position, working his way up through the field to the 11th spot by lap 60. A lap 61 caution would see most of the leaders head to pitroad while Enfinger would remain on the track, gaining several positions and restarting 3rd on lap 69. Enfinger would then fight an “uncooperative” car over the next 80 laps, falling to the 12th position by the time the team would pit again under caution on lap 139. The stop for fuel, tires, and adjustments would have Enfinger restarting in the 16th spot for his final run to the checkers. As the last 50 laps of the 200 lap event sponsored by Ansell Protective Gloves wound down, Enfinger would continue to fight an ill handling car, but still gaining positions, eventually finishing in the 9th spot.
After the race, Enfinger had this to say… “We’re a little baffled and frustrated with the car tonight. We were really good throughout practice. The car was really where we wanted it to be. We tried a couple changes that didn’t work towards the end of practice, so we put everything back to where it was when the car was good, had a decent qualifying run there [8th] and looked forward to a good race. When the race started, we were a little loose by design, figuring the car would tighten up as the track cooled with the sun going down. From about lap 20 on, the car would go back and forth between loose and tight. We made several adjustments during the race but could never get the car back to the way it was in practice. We’re all a little disappointed with a 9th place finish, we know we’re better than that, but overall, it was a good points night. We’ll go on to Pocono next weekend and see what we can do there. We’ll be bringing the same car we had in June that we finished 3rd with there. We are going to break into Victory Lane soon, it might just be there.”
With the 9th place finish, Enfinger and the Allgaier Motorsports team moved from 4th to 3rd in the ARCA Series points standings. Enfinger is now 10 points behind 2nd place Frank Kimmel and 30 points ahead of 4th place Chris Buescher.
